2012 Dental Care Day

It was definitely not “business as usual” at the Lakeway Dental Office on August 22, 2012. Dentists, Hygienists, Assistants and many volunteers came together to process, check, clean, polish, extract and repair teeth belonging to 60 low-income Lake Travis children ages 5 – 18 who cannot afford basic dental care. 2012 LTHS Scholarships

This year LTlov presented 3 Lake Travis High School graduating seniors with $1500.00 scholarships. Congratulations, from left, Thomas Goins, who will attend Baylor University as a music education major; Jessica Saul, who will attend Tarleton State and major in nursing; and Jennifer Martinez, who will attend Texas State as an international relations major. Scholarship recipients are pictured with committee chair, Rene Albee, who presented each student with a collection of items donated by members dedicated to give them a good start as they head off to begin their first year away at school.

2011 Drive for School Supplies

Lake Travis is a very generous community. The proof was once again evidenced by another extremely successful “PackaBackpack” School Supplies Drive benefiting LTISD. In just 3 short weeks donations far exceeded expectations and as a result, more than 300 students received supplies their families could not afford to purchase. Backpacks, pens, pencils, paper, folders, crayons, markers, glue sticks… etc. came pouring in through the doors of 6 wonderful businesses who offered to be collection sites for this project. Thank you Elite Wellness, Strandz Salon, American Bank, Hillcrest Bank, Bee Waxed Skin Care Spa and the Lakeway Spine Center for welcoming our bins and the donations of the residents of the greater Lake Travis area. Some folks chose to make cash donations to LTlov to be used toward the purchase of additional supplies. Thank you for your trust. Your generosity made it possible for LTlov to purchase 7 new graphing calculators that were presented to the Lake Travis High School Library for use in their calculator lending program. LTHS librarian, Elizabeth Stearns, was thrilled to be able to make so many additional calculators available to students who do not have access to the funds necessary for such an expensive, but necessary learning tool. 2011 “PackaBackpack” Chair, Fionnuala Stockton, summed it up by saying, “It really was incredible to see the way people responded to the needs of our children and our schools! It’s great that so many kids will have a new backpack and supplies for school this year and all through the generosity of the Lake Travis community. Thank you!”

First Annual Free Dental Care Day

On August 10th 2011, LTlov and the Lakeway Dental Office teamed up to bring a ground-breaking event to the greater Lake Travis area. Thanks to the generosity of Dr. Robbie Robinson and his staff, as well as an assembled team of local dentists, hygienists, Dental Assistants, LTlov members and Friends of LTlov, local children from lower income families were offered the opportunity to receive free dental care. Pack – a – Backpack 2010

Many students in LTISD enjoyed the fruits of LTlov and co-sponsor, Elite Wellness’s, very successful “PackaBackpack” School Supplies Drive. Over 175 backpacks filled with much-needed items were delivered to grateful principals and counselors, and will be given to students who need them. “The extreme generosity of the Lake Travis community is at the very heart of our success,” reported Melinda Bily, LTlov chair for the drive. Special thanks to American Bank, Emmaus Church, the Bee Cave and Lakeway/Lake Travis Rotary clubs, and Keller Williams, who all contributed time and resources that allowed us to far exceed our original goal of 100 backpacks!
