Holiday Reading Challenge

Read for Neighbors in Need! Lake Travis Community Library’s Holiday Reading Challenge Benefiting LTlov’s Green Santa

The Lake Travis Community Library is kicking off the holiday season with a new community reading challenge to benefit LTlov’s Green Santa. Green Santa is an initiative to assist local, Lake Travis children and families in need by providing meals, groceries, and gifts for the holidays. Children who receive assistance from the program range in age from infant to 17 years and are living at or below the poverty line.

The Lake Travis Community Library Holiday Reading Challenge encourages the community to read 20 minutes each day, from November 1st to December 31st to reach a personal goal of 1,000 minutes. If the community collectively reads 100,000 minutes by December 31st, the Friends of the Lake Travis Community Library will donate a total of $1,000 to support LTlov’s Green Santa.

“Every year, we are excited to support the Green Santa program by collecting toys at the library,” said Jana Dodd, Friends of the Lake Travis Community Library President. “As this is not possible this year, the Friends of the Lake Travis Community Library have committed to providing funding for the Green Santa program through the Holiday Reading Challenge. It’s a great way to give back, while encouraging the Lake Travis community to read!”

To help local, low income families through the Holiday Reading Challenge, simply register yourself and each family member in Beanstack (a reading challenge platform) through the Lake Travis Community Library website or by downloading the Beanstack Tracker app. Use Beanstack to record the number of minutes you read each day, track progress, and earn virtual badges. The hardest part will be deciding what to read! Reading materials can be accessed through the library’s curbside reserve pick up service, contactless bookmobile service, and digital resources such as the Libby app.

“What a wonderful way for our library and patrons to contribute to Green Santa and LTlov!” said Nancy McDonald, Green Santa business liaison and Lake Travis Community Library volunteer. “Every year our library community steps up to generously bring joy to many children. The Holiday Reading Challenge is a creative, innovative way to help our local community.”

The Lake Travis Community Library offers remote library card registration for Texas residents who are at least 18 years of age. For more information, please call (512) 263-2885, text (512) 643-2802, email librarian@laketravislibrary.org, or visit laketravislibrary.org.
